MAKING A PROMOTIONAL VIDEO FOR MVA: If you or someone you know likes making videos (both filming and editing), we are looking for some help. We are putting together a 5-7 minute promotional video for overseas recruiting for MVA. Footage may also be used for a mission spotlight video for the school. Contact us if you are able to help in any way.
FINDING A MAINTENANCE TASKFORCE WORKER FOR MVA: MVA has a taskforce position open for a maintenance worker. If you know of someone with some maintenance skills that would be willing to take a year off in service of the Lord at MVA, please put them in touch with the school.
40-DAY DEVOTIONAL STUDY: Using Dennis Smith's "40 Days of Prayer and Devotions to Prepare for the Second Coming," we will be doing a 40-day devotional study with the students. The goal is to encourage the students to develop habits of daily personal devotions. Thanks to the generosity of Alden Thompson and his WWU Sabbath School class, students who are interested will receive one of these books free of charge and will share it with another student (we are encouraging roommates or close friends to share the book). This is being run as a Sabbath School class and under the direction of this year's Student Association Spiritual VP.
DONATE DEVOTIONAL BOOKS TO THE MVA DEVOTIONAL BOOK LIBRARY: We are trying to create a devotional book library for the students where they can go and check out devotional books to help them with their personal devotion time. The goal is to have this library in place by the end of the 40-Day devotional study. We are seeking donations of used devotional books that could be put into this library. Books can be sent to MVA to the attention of Paul Torchia, MVA's chaplain. The address is 525 Wooster Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
UPDATE: We also need people willing to call Ohio Conference and Allegheny West Churches to solicit donations. If you have time and would be willing to make some phone calls, we would appreciate your help.
UPDATE: We want to thank Jennie Downing, MVA alumnus, for placing those calls for us.
RECRUITING: If you know of any students that could benefit from a recruiting visit, please be sure to let MVA know. The number to call is (740) 397-5411.
PRAY FOR THIS PROJECT: MVA can only thrive with the prayerful support of people everywhere. Please pray for the school, the students, the staff, and for us and this project.
VOTE FOR MVA IN THE "GIVE WITH TARGET" CAMPAIGN: Target is giving away gift-cards to schools for supplies. Every 25 votes earns the school a $25 gift-card. MVA, as of August 15, had earned their first gift-card. Every school is eligible for up to $10,000 in gift-cards. Voting takes place on Facebook at https://apps.facebook.com/givewithtarget/. Be sure to log in, search for "Mt Vernon Academy" and vote once a week.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: The campaign closed early. MVA was able to obtain a $25 gift-card from Target.
